The daughter of a single parent and a five kids, Jones had a difficult and a squatter's growing up. Her mother was constantly moving and lived in the basement of the church. The sporadic lifestyle forced Jones to change schools and attend the same school each year, until she began her high school. While at Theodore Roosevelt High School, Jones resided apart from her mother in order to take on athletics. Her family was split up throughout high school, so that she was in a position to focus on her studies.
